Xenotime is a thought-provoking progressive rock band that will intrigue you with musical stories of the unusual. ‘Xenotime’ refers to the rare-earth mineral xenotime, derived from the words ‘xenos’ (strange) and ‘timē’ (honour).
In its music and lyrics, the band investigates the uncommon and its place in the world, as well as themes such as personal identity, family, and mass psychology. Like the xenotime mineral, the band’s music can be described as earthy, sharp and multifaceted. It is at times melodic and smooth, at other times loud and abrasive. Its rhythms, song structures and harmonic content are varied, and reminiscent of jazz-rock/fusion. The band’s influences are Rush, Opeth, Genesis, King Crimson, Porcupine Tree, Yes, and Pink Floyd.
The band has been honouring the unusual since 2023. Xenotime is a Dutch-German band, based in Bad Bentheim, just across the German border. The composition of the band reflects their vision of embracing the unexpected: its members cover multiple generations and backgrounds, brought together through the love of progressive music. Xenotime has played at Waschpohler Festival, and is working towards its first recordings.
